Banchanglo Sub District

Banchanglo Sub District

DISTRICT: Bangkok Noi

POSTCODE: 10700

Bang Chang Lo can be found on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River and is a sub-district of Bangkok Noi. Bang Chan Lo covers the area between Wang Lang and Phran Nok roads, right up to the Fai Chai Intersection.

Bang Chang Lo means Village of Caster as the original inhabitants of the area had a tradition of casting images of Buddha. They also worked in the Royal Court creating images for large royal ceremonies.

Traditionally this area is known for handicrafts and traditional goods but they are hard to find now. In Bang Chang Lo however, you can still find artisans making Buddha images, today this is done by using rubber molds and then lacquer is applied.

The area’s architecture is a mixture of traditional Thai wooden houses, townhouses, and small apartment blocks.

Local shopping has the popular Wang Lang Market, which sells fresh produce and cheap clothing. For more upmarket retail therapy then the surrounding area is home to Central Plaza Pinklao which can be found on Borommaratchachonnani Road.

There is also a large cinema complex just over the street which is part of the Major Cineplex group.

There are interesting temples in Bang Chang Lo to visit such as Wat Wiset Kan. The tiny monastery is situated in the middle of the old residential area of Bang Chang Lo. The exterior decorations are quite exceptional, especially around the windows featuring golden lotus flowers.

Nearby Bangkok Noi has its own railway station that is sometimes called Thonburi, and it handles services to Nakhon Pathom, Kanchanaburi, and Nam Tok.

There is no direct access to the BTS or the MRT transport networks in Bang Chang Lo which means it is a little difficult getting around. And because of this property is fairly cheap compared to more affluent areas of Bangkok.
