Bang Khen just like all the other districts prefixed by bang is situated by the river. It was once one of the largest districts in Bangkok but as it grew then alterations were made to its boundaries to reduce its size. Today it is home to the Thai Army and the 11th Infantry Division that has a base that covers over three thousand rai of land.
There are many places of interest to visit including the temple of holy relics, Wat Phra. There is also a great market, Ying Charoen and Bang Khen has been home to the famous Lumphini Boxing Stadium since 2014 when it moven from Pathum Wan.
There is actually a Bang Khen railways station but because of the alterations in borders this is now in Chatuchak district but obviously also services Bang Khen.
One attraction hidden away that is well worth a visit is Ban Bang Khen, it is a replica of an antique Thai village that oozes charm. The village is a perfect place to take time out and look at some of the old curios of past life in Thailand.
There are also some great food outlets, and plenty of tourist shops to hunt out some great bargains to take back home.
Travelling out to Phahonyothin Road you can find Wat Phra, which is origin of the amulet Phra Kring Thung Bang Khen which was made in 1969 and is highly revered.
