Bangmot Sub District

Bangmot Sub District

DISTRICT: Chom Thong

POSTCODE: 10150

Bang Mot is a sub-district of Chom Thong and is located southwest of Central Bangkok. The area is served by the BTS transport network with the nearest station being Wutthakat.

The area is famous all over Thailand for the Bang Mot tangerine. Although this fruit is called a tangerine it is actually a mandarin orange. The cultivation of this fruit in Bang Mot began in 1924 when a farmer brought a plant cutting from a mandarin grove from another district in Bangkok called Bangkok Noi.

He planted the cutting near the canal and the land all around had rich fertile soil with exceptional potassium deposits. And this gave a really distinctive taste to the fruit, almost like sweet and sour.

Today’s growing of tangerines in Bang Mot is not at previous levels due to a flood in 1967 that killed off many plants in the area, and together with the urban expansion of Bangkok, many farmers did not replant.

The area is served by the BTS transport network with the nearest station being Wutthakat, which gives limited access to the residents of Bang Mot.

Bang Mot has many small villages such as Tharika, Pracha Suk, and Sirichan which give a great community spirit to the area.

Much of the accommodation is traditional Thai wooden houses, with some townhouses on the more major roads.

Being quite a rural area of Bangkok property prices are reasonable, although the journey into Central Bangkok may be a trifle difficult.
