Wat Phraya Krai is close to central Bangkok to the east and is a sub-district of Bang Kho Laem. Located on the west side of the river it is a fairly compact part of Bangkok. The area took its name from the old temple that used to be located there, but unfortunately it is no longer there.
The main feature of the area is the unique Asiatique, which is Bangkok’s first large-scale riverside project. This myriad of entertainment includes impressive shopping outlets, great restaurants, and many activities and shows including the highly popular ladybody show Calypso.
For such a great location prices are reasonable, however eating and drinking can be expensive but then the sights are for free including a marvelous carousel and of course the river.
Other places of interest in the area are Wat Ratcha Singkhorn, Wat Worachanyawas, Ramada Plaza Menam, and the Chatrium Hotel.
Wat Phraya Krai is not on the BTS or MRT networks, the best way of accessing the district is by river taxi or many people that go there take the frequesnt bus routes available.
Education is provided by the excellent Shrewsbury International School that has a sterling reputation for educating both foreign and Thai students.
Wat Phraya Krai is not known for swanky condominium apartments, but for the proximity to the center of town it is an area to consider if you are working in central Bangkok.
