Yan Nawa Sub District

DISTRICT: Sathon

POSTCODE: 10120

Yan Nawa is one of three sub-districts that make up the Sathon District. The Silom line of the BTS Skytrain system runs along one border as the district also borders the Chao Phraya River. The BTS stations of Saphan Taksin and Surasak are within Yan Nawa. It also borders sister sub-district Thung Wat Don.

The sub-district Yan Nawa should not be confused with the District Yan Nawa. Yan Nawa District does border Sathon District, but it does not share a border with Yan Nawa sub-district. Sathon District was previously part of Yan Nawa District, so the naming is likely a result of past changes in borders and reallocation of district lines.

Wat Yan Nawa is in the sub-district of Yan Nawa. It has a boat shaped chedi which is quite unusual and was constructed during the time of King Rama III. The temple was originally called Wat Khok Krabue under King Rama I. It was designated as a royal temple in 1782.

The temple is a place for collecting Tripitaka, Buddhist scriptures and Dharma books. There is also a statue of King Rama III in front of the Chinese junk shaped chedi.

Yan Nawa is home to Saint Louis Hospital. The are, and they stress the point, a non-profit hospital. The hospital was founded in 1898 by the Roman Catholic Church of Siam. They have over 400 beds, and the hospital sits on about 20 rai of land.

The hospital runs the John Paul Charity Clinic. The clinic provides free care to the disadvantaged.
