Bang Khun Phrom is one of the twelve sub-districts of Phra Nakhon. It share a border with sister sub-district Ban Phan Thom on one side and Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem on the other. The Royal the Army Museum in Honor of His Majesty the King is located here.
The museum dates back to 1892 under King Rama V. It was on the third floor of the Ministry of Defense building. Its original name was Military Museum of the Ministry of Defense. A number of the original collections were moved to the National Museum when the military required the space for other purposes. There were many attempts over the years to re-open the museum, but the project remained n hold until Royal Thai Army headquarters were moved to a new location. It was decided to refurbish the buildings and the museum officially reopened in 1996. The opening was in commemoration of the golden jubilee of His Majesty the King’s accession to the throne.
Wat Makut Kasattriyaram Ratchaworawiharn or simply Wat Makut is named after King Mongkut (Rama IV) who founded temple which opened in 1868. It is a second grade royal temple. It underwent a six year restoration project that was completed in 2007 which coincided with the 80’th birthday of HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej. It received the Architectural Conservation Award of the Asa Association of Siamese Architects.
Wat Makut Kasatriyaram School is one two schools associated to the temple. The other is Mathayom Wat Makutkasat School which is a high school serving through grade twelve.
