Lat Yao is a sub-district of Chatuchak which is directly north of central Bangkok. The area around Lat Yao is famous for the Chatuchak Weekend Market which is the largest of its kind in Thailand.
The Chatuchak Market can be found on Kamphaeng Road and there are BTS and MRT stations around and about that make it easy to get to from other areas of Bangkok.
Some people call this market JJ Market and you can find over fifteen thousand stalls in this huge expanse. The market is so big it is divided into twenty seven different sections with a map available to show you what goods are located where.
The market sells just about everything from consumer electrics, antiques, plants, cosmetics, clothing, pets, ceramics, furniture, home accessories, books, and of course has a vast selection of food outlets to either eat in or take out.
Next to JJ Market you can find Chatuchak Park Complex that allows plenty of fresh air and greenery after you have been fighting through the bargains. The park is now on part of an old golf course and the complex includes, Chatuchak, Queen Sirikit, and Wachirabenchathat parks.
If it is retail therapy that you need then the biggest mall in the Lat Lao vicinity is Central Plaza Lat Phrao, which is a massive complex consisting of a department store, the Bangkok Convention Center, a cinema complex, and many retail outlets.
Other shopping outlets in the area are Union Mall which is dedicated to youngsters, and the Major Cineplex at Ratchayothin.
Lat Lao is a popular place to live, as it has many retail outlets, markets and there are also many MRT and BTS stations dotted about the area. Real estate prices reflect this and although not as high as central Bangkok they tend to be on the expensive side.
