Chatuchak District

SUB DISTRICTS: Lat Yao, Sena Nikhom, Chan Kasem, Chomphon, Chatucha.

AREA: 32,908 sq km (12.706 sq mi)

POPULATION: 156,684 (2017)

POSTCODE: 10900

This northern district of Bangkok is one of the most densely populated in the city. It was only formed in 1989 and was named after its most famous landmarks, Chatuchak Park and Chatuchak Weekend Market.

People from far and wide come to visit the famous Chatuchak Weekend

Market which is the biggest market in the whole of Thailand. The market has continually expanded and now part of it is under cover and air conditioned.

It is a sprawling mass of shopping outlets, but divided into areas of products such as food, or clothing. At the center is a wonderful food hall selling Thai food and other tasty cuisines.

Other markets in the area are Chatuchak Plaza, Ratchayothin and Or Tor Kor Market, and along the Kamphang Phet Road there are many vendors selling plants and various other garden products.

Chatuchak also has great options for shopping malls, Central Plaza Lat Phrao is the biggest shopping outlet in the district, and encompasses the Central Department Store, the Bangkok Convention Centre, plus a multi- screen cinema complex. There is even a store dedicated to youngsters called Union Mall which is an eight storey building.

The district has fantastic transport links and has four MRT Blue Line stations, Kamphaeng Phet, Chatuchak Park, Phathon Yothin, and Lat Phrao.

The area is also at the northern end of the BTS Skytrain Sukumvit Line at Mo Chit station. Many bus routes also operate in the district to all areas of the city.

The transportation links make Chatuchak a popular area for city commuters, and although there are some superb condominium developments here property tends to be on the more expensive side.
