Sanambin Sub District

Sanambin Sub District

DISTRICT: Don Mueang

POSTCODE: 10210

Sanam Bin is a sub-district of Don Mueang and is situated to the very north of Bangkok. The old name of this region was Don I Yiao which means the plateau of eagles. This came about to its geographical location which attracted many birds including eagles.

The whole area is now dominated by Don Mueang Airport which serves as a domestic and an international base. Because of the airport the traffic congestion is pretty bad, and this area is yet to be linked to Bangkok’s elite transport services of the BTS and the MRT.

Wat Phra Sri Mahathat Wors Maha Wihan is the main temple in the vicinity and has many interesting features for tourists to admire. Not least the white and gold pagoda and the fine white stupa.

Somdet Phra Srinagarindra Park is probably the greatest attraction near Sanam Bin. It is a perfect place to relax and get away from the city and horticulturalists will especially enjoy the ornamental plants.

The park is also a good place for families as it has wide open spaces where they can get together and enjoy a relaxing picnic in the open air.

Most activity in Sanam Bin is based around the airport, and many airport workers live in the vicinity as travel to and from work is fairly difficult.

Shopping is reduced to convenience stores and local independent businesses. There are no swanky malls or department stores to be found in Sanam Bin

Housing around Sanam Bin is relatively inexpensive and there are some great small housing developments that offer newly built detached houses. Of course being a fairly rural area there are a plethora of townhouses and traditional Thai wooden buildings.

Sanam Bin does not attract many tourists, apart from the ones that land at the airport and head into the center of Bangkok. And it is not really an area to commute into the city each day.
