The district of Saphan Sung is in the Eastern part of Bangkok. It is a mostly low density residential area. Saphan Song was previously part of the Bueng Kum District which was divided in 1997 creating two new districts. The district of Khan Na Yao was the other district created from the split. Saphan Sung translates to tall bridge. This likely is referring to the shape of bridges built across khlongs when boats were a major form of transportation.
The district is home to the Saphan Sung Discovery Learning Library. As the name suggests it is not your ordinary library with a focus on helping to open curious minds. Definitely worth a visit.
The Saphan Sung Youth Centre is an inviting place to go and get fit or just relax. They have plenty of equipment so no waiting, and bet of all it’s free. They even have badminton. For more information, contact the District Council.
Phra Ajahn Mitsuo Gavesako was formerly an abbot and meditation teacher, started a foundation in 1990 attributed to the Saphan Sung District. Though he has since left the monkhood, his foundations, teachings and legacy remains.
He was famous for a series of acclaimed dhamma books. He promoted a lifestyle of having a healthy mind and maintaining a positive attitude. He achieved this through avoiding destructive emotions.
When he left the monkhood, many assumed the good works of the foundation would stop. This was not the case, and the work has carried on to the benefit of many people.
