Sikhan Sub District

Sikhan Sub District

DISTRICT: Don Mueang

POSTCODE: 10210

Si Khan is a sub-district of Don Mueang and is situated to the very north of Bangkok. The old name of this region was Don I Yiao which means the plateau of eagles. This came about to its geographical location which attracted many birds including eagles.

The whole area is now dominated by Don Mueang Airport which serves as a domestic and an international base. Because of the airport the traffic congestion is pretty bad, and this area is yet to be linked to Bangkok’s elite transport services of the BTS and the MRT.

Most activity in Si Khan is based around the airport, and many airport workers live in the vicinity as travel to and from work is fairly difficult.

Shopping is reduced to convenience stores and local independent businesses. There are no swanky malls or department stores to be found in Si Khan.

The same goes for restaurants, most outlets are small Thai places with very little western food on offer. However, the food is excellent and cooked to perfection. You will also find the prices very attractive.

Housing around Si Khan is affordable and there are some great housing estates with newly built two and three bedroom detached houses. Of course being a fairly rural area there are a plethora of townhouses and traditional Thai wooden buildings.

The biggest problem Si Khan has is its lack of transport links. The only real way around it is by bus or car which does not help traffic congestion one bit. However, if you want to access the rest of Thailand then it is a perfect place to do so.
