DISTRICT: Dusit
POSTCODE: 10300
Suan Chitlada is a sub-district of Dusit and is situated northwest of Central Bangkok.
The transport network around the Watchiraphayaban area is limited to one station of the MRT line at Bang Sue. There are however many piers for water taxis in the region that the Dusit District Chao Phraya Express Boat services, Thewes Pier, Payap Pier, and Kiakkai Pier.
The area around Suan Chitlada has many important buildings and educational establishments. That include: Vajiravudh College, Mahidol University Faculty of Science, The Ministry of Education, and Saint Gabriel’s College.
Suan Chitlada is very much a government and educational area and shopping malls and department stores are few and far between, the tourists that do come into the area do so to visit the fine buildings including many interesting temples.
Wat Sommanat, Wat Sukhantharam, Wat Makut Kasatriyaram, Wat Bowonniwetwiham, and Wat Thotsathep, are all closely situated to Suan Chitlada.
Perhaps the most famous place in Suan Chitlada is Chitlada Palace which was formerly the residence of the Thai royal family. The Palace and the grounds are also a royally funded agricultural centre that was highly important to the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. However, this palace is not open to the public, but it is highly interesting to sport rice paddies and animal pastures right in the heart of the capital.
Suan Ambhorn is a green space right in front of the Equestrian Plaza on Rajadamnern Nok road, and many festivals and events are held there for celebrations.
Suan Chilada is not really a place for expats and workers to live, it does not have a plethora of apartment buildings, and because of the affluence of the area the cost of real estate is high.
