DISTRICT: Phra Nakhon
POSTCODE: 10200
One of twelve sub-districts of Phra Nakhon District is Talat Yot. It starts at Bang Lam Phu Canal which is the only canal with which it shares a border. It borders several of its sister sub-districts. For tourists, the most well known feature of Talat Yot is Khao San Road.
You may have heard Khao San Road referred to as the centre of the backpacking universe. This is attributed to author Alex Garland in his best selling book The Beach. It is now widely used on almost every internet website when talking about Khao San Road. Susan Orlean in an essay on backpacker culture referred to it as a “the place to disappear”
Khao San Road was built in 1892 in the period of King Rama V. It is relatively short at only 410 metres. Along this strip you will find endless budget guesthouses, bars, restaurants, massage parlours, travel agents, bookshops, market stalls and that is only the beginning. There is so much that all of the vibe and feeling of Khao San has spread to nearby Soi Rambuttri. In addition to its popularity in the backpacker community, it is also popular with member of the younger generation in Bangkok.
Talat Yot is not just for backpackers. Up near Bang Lam Phu Canal is the Korbua Hotel which is a medium priced hotel offering rooms with views over the canal. Here you can dine and relax right on the banks of the canal and enjoy a private balcony in your room for peaceful quiet reflection.
