Thanonnakhonchaisi Sub District

DISTRICT: Dusit

POSTCODE: 10300

Thanon Nakhon Chai Si is a sub-district of Dusit and is situated northwest of Central Bangkok.

The area is mostly full of administrative buildings, educational establishments, government buildings and so forth. But there are also many museums and temples for tourists to visit.

Museums include, Jesada Technik Museum, Human Imagery Museum, Thai Farmers Lifestyle Museum, Human Imagery Museum, and the Owl Art Museum.

The area around Thanon Nakhon Chai Si has many temples, such as Wat Bang Phra Temple, Wat Phra Pathom Chedi, Wat Sisa Thong, Wat Klang Bang Phra and Wat Klang Bang Kaew.

Perhaps one of the more interesting temples is Wat Bang Phra, which like many temples in Bangkok mixes Buddhism with Hinduism. And one such tradition is sak yant, which are magical tattoos.

These tattoos are meant to grant protection, power, health, wealth, and luck and the most famous place in Bangkok to get one is Wat Bang Phra. Tattooing yantras has been a part of Khmer culture for over two thousand years, and many Thais and tourists queue at the temple in order to get one.

Visitors that come to Thanon Nakhon Chai Si do so for more cultural reasons than the shoppers who head for the big departments stores and swanky malls.

The most important buildings include: Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall, Royal Plaza, Government House, and the National Library of Thailand.

This is also a military area and is home to many military camps. Which include: the 1st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Cavalry Division, 1st Field Artillery Battalion, and the Air Defense Division.

Thanon Nakhon Chai Si is really a tourist area for people who love architecture and buildings. It is quite restricted to access as it is not really serviced by the BTS or MRT lines.
