Thawi Watthana takes it name from Khlong Thawi Watthana. This is a long khlong that basically runs northwest-southeast through the area. in 1933 it was originally a tambon, and part of Amphoe Taling Chan of Thon Buri province. It became a district in 1998. Agriculture is a big part of Thawi Watthana with many feeding khlongs to provide water to the orchards. Development is negatively imacting on this as housing projects are built along major roads in the district.

There are some amazing places to explore, and one of them would certainly be Utthayan Road locally known as Aksa Road. Though less that 4 m long, it is widely considered the most beautiful road in Thailand. Its destination is the Buddhist park of Phutthamonthon. It is magnificently landscaped with swan lampposts, three fountains and lotus ponds in the central traffic island.

The Thonburi market is another feature of Thawi Watthana. Opened in 2000. the market itself consists of 60 rai of land devoted to public parks and 40 rai designated for the actual market. The market sells a vast array of goods but it is most famous for being the largest orchid trade centre in Thailand.

If you like something a little bit offbeat, then the House of Museums is for you. It's only open on the weekends, and does not resemble a traditional museum. It is a private collection in a three story shophouse consisting of all kinds of knick-knacks, technology, furniture and even candy from the 1960s onwards. Make sure you check on the now antique dentist’s chair.
