Bang Khun Thian is remarkable for a few interesting things, firstly it is one of the oldest districts in Bangkok and secondly that it is home to Bangkok’s only seashore.

It encompasses a coastline that stretches roughly five kilometers, and along its muddy banks you can find a diverse biodiversity including shrimp farms and mangrove forests. And the only way you can access the Gulf of Thailand.

The local inhabitants of the shoreline are macaques who love to eat the local crabs.

There area has many fisherman who on a daily basis sail out for their catch. It is hardly surprising that some of the best, and cheapest fish restaurants can be found in Bang Khun Thian.

Other notable places of interest are three temples, Wat Kamphaeng, Wat Kok, and Wat Bang Kradi.

Not far away is a great floating market called Wat Sai, where many food and clothing stores can be found selling goods at more than reasonable prices. Over the past few years it has tended to attract many tourists so expect to haggle to get the prices Thai’s pay.

Local to Bang Khun Thian is Wat Hua Krabeu Riverside Market, a place where locals gather to eat delicious and cheap food and of course to chat about the important issues of the day.
