This inner-city district is full of towering skyscrapers and also full of the hustle and bustle of The Big Mango. Khlong San is one of the oldest districts of Bangkok and has a rich history.
The term Khlong means a canal, and the district was named after an old waterway that ran through it. Today this canal is part of the network that runs through the center of Bangkok, especially through the orchard area.
Khlong San was the original terminus of the Meaklong Railway but as the line was cut back in 1961 it no longer operates.
The district has great transport links due to it being served by the BTS Skytrain service. There are two stations in the district Krung Thonburi, and Wongwian Yai. Khlong San is also a major bus hub on the western side of the Chao Phraya River.
There are absolutely stacks of places of interest to be seen in such an old part of the capital, including the tallest building in Bangkok, the Magnolias Waterfront Residences.
Among the most popular places are the Princess Mother Memorial Park, Wang Li House, King Taksin Monument, Pong Patchamit Fort, Sinn Sathorn Tower, and many fabulous Wats including, Anongkharam, Sawettachat, Phichai Yat, and Wat Thong Nopphakhun.
If retail therapy is what rocks your boat then you must go to the fabulous Icon Siam Shopping Mall.
This is a state of the art riverside mall that is full of top-class retail outlets together with a fine restaurant selection and a multi-screen cinema complex.
Khlong San is one of the most desirable areas of Bangkok to live, high-end condominiums reflect the people who reside in the locality, so do not expect real estate to come cheap.
