Saimai District

The Sai Mai district is the most populous district in Bangkok based on numbers from 2014. Located in the northern area of Bangkok, Sai Mai  was originally a muban which is the lowest level of administrative authority given. In 1940 it became a sub-district of Amphoe Bang Khen. In 1997, Sai Mai was elevated to a District because of the population growth. The District Council has eight members each of whom normally serve a four year term.’

The Saphan Mai marketplace is one of the main features of the district. The main market area is Talat Saphan Mai or also referred to as Talat Ying Charoen. which is a wet market. The term wet market  means that it sells fresh meat and produce. It opened in 1955 and covers an area or around 30 rai or about 11 acres. It covers an area of the district along both sides of Phahonyothin Road.

Saphan Mai literally means New Bridge and is the term used by locals for the new bridge and is used to refer to Saphan Sukoranakhaseni which repoaced the old bridge.

Sai Mai has a range of both condos and houses for sale and rent. On average houses stay on the market for about 145 days. one and two bedroom homes provide the highest return on investment in Sai Mai which at present is between 5% and 7%.
