Wang Thonglang was originally established in 1997 when parts of Bang Kapi and Lat Phrao were combined to for this new district. Originally it had a total area of 19.205 km2 but in 2002 following a boundary adjustment with Lat Phrao district, it is now at 18.905 km2. The name Wang Thonglang means “Palace of Tiger Claw”.

One of the most significant attractions to be found in Wang Thonglang is the  Chao Phraya Bodindecha museum. It commemorates His Majesty the King Bhumibol’s 50th anniversary accession to the throne. It has a wide array of history and art from that time is surrounded by Thai botanic gardens.

Another popular place in Wang Thonglang is Golden Place. Here you can find OTOP and Royal Project produce. The market features organic, natural and herbal products. There is also a food court and a good selection of restaurants.

Wang Thonglang is largely residential with predominantly Thai families who have lived in the area for generations. Real Estate prices are reasonable with the median price of a condo at around 1.6 million THB and a median rental price of less than 9,000 THB.

Wang Thonglang is home to a wide range of concerts and events. This incudes upcoming concerts by international artists such as Nine Inch Nails and Morrissey. Touring shows from America and Australia can be found performing in Wang Thonglang. There is also a wide range of nightlife aimed mostly at younger people featuring food, drink and entertainment.
