Nawamin Sub District

DISTRICT: Bueng Kum

POSTCODE: 10240

Nawamin is a sub-district of Bueng Kum, and is to be found towards the northeast of the center of Bangkok.

Nawamin is a fairly quiet corner of Bangkok, it has no large shopping malls or retail outlets to speak of. Most of the stores are local privately owned businesses and markets. The nearest mall being Nine Centre Rama 9.

One of the best markets in the area is Nawamin Market Place on Nawamin Road opposite Grand Sport Park. The main feature is the food stalls which sell tasty Thai treats at very reasonable prices.

The major tourist attraction in the locality is the Seri Thai Garden which was formerly known as Bueng Kum Water Park. It can be found on Serithai Road at MoobanSahakorn.

This public garden covers a generous 57 rai, and Bueng Kum was actually a large pond. The pond was redeveloped in 1985 by the king to act as a flood control reservoir for Bangkok.

And later to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his Majesty the King’s coronation, trees were planted to create a forest park. The park is also home to the Seri Thai Memorial Museum, a youth library, and Bueng Kum Water Park Museum.

Nawamin sub-district is not on the BTS or the MRT lines therefore travel is by either bus or by car.

Accommodation in Nawamin is a mixture of traditional Thai wooden houses, and small modern housing estates. Also there are a plethora of townhouses that line the roads.

Prices are reasonable and this is because commuting into the city is not particularly easy.
