Bangphongphang Sub District

DISTRICT: Yan Nawa

POSTCODE: 10120

Bang Phongphang is one of two sub-districts of Yan Nawa. It came to be in 1975 which is three years after Yan Nawa was established as a district.

The sub-district is home to The Museum of Counterfeit Goods. This is an extremely interesting place to visit with something for everyone. The museum is only open  to the public on Mondays from 2:00 pm and Thursdays from 10:00 am. It is critical that you pre-book your visit.

Originally opened in 1989 with about 100 items, it has grown to over 4,000 today and is one of the largest collections of its kind in the world. It is run by the law firm of Tilleke & Gibbins who specialise in Intellectual Property law.

The museum works with professionals, the media and the education sector to educate them about IP and the importance of protecting this.

A stunning feature found near Bang Phongphang is the Bhumibol Bridge. There are actually two bridges but they are instantly recognised for their impressive architecture.

The bridges provide a connection between South Bangkok and Samut Prakan Province over the Chao Phraya river as part of the Industrial Ring Road. The two bridges are collectively known as mega bridge and officially opened in 2006.

The bridge, which  has been featured on The Discovery Channel decided to ban motorcycles in November 2018 due to safety concerns.

Not surprisingly, this is not the only bridge to be found. Rama IX bridge opened in 1987 and at the time was the second longest cable stayed bridge in the world.
