Taling Chan District was originally part of the Thonburi Province. Of course Thonburi has since merged with Bangkok. In 1998 the the district was split into two with the second district being Thani Watthana District. Historically this district was used for orchards and many of those still remain. Taling Chan roughly translates to steep bank.
Taling Chan features the Talang Chan Floating Market on Khlong Chak Phra. Located in front of the district office it is only open on weekends from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. The market features locally grown produce as well as fish. There is live Thai music at the market in the middle of the day. This is not the only floating market in the district, and they are becoming more and more popular places for tourists to visit.
These markets preserve the past and offer a glimpse for their visitors. They are becoming popular as destinations for cultural tourism.
There are several choices for food and drink in Taling Chan. In addition to the plentiful vendors selling street food, a quick check at Trip Advisor found some 77 reviewed restaurants. The most popular tend to be Tahi restaurants, cafes and coffee shops.
If you are looking for something different, then a visit to Taling Chan and the floating markets is a great idea. Consider travelling their by a long tail boat for a truly memorable experience
