With a name such as community on the waterfront (Bang) it is hardly surprising that many things happen down at the waterside of the mighty Chao Phraya River.
And in Bang Kho Laem is the marvelous Asiatique, which is Bangkok’s first large-scale riverside project. This myriad of entertainment includes impressive shopping outlets, great restaurants, and many activities and shows including the highly popular ladybody show Calypso.
Surprisingly for such a great location prices are really reasonable, however eating and drinking can be expensive but then the sights are for free including a marvelous carousel.
Bang Kho Laem is not on the BTS or MRT and most people that go there take the many bus routes available or take a cab.
Many visitors travel to Bang Kho Laem district to also visit the Phraya Krai Temple, that is named after an ancient temple that existed on the site of the prest one. The original temple was constructed around 1800 but the present building is a reconstruction by Phraya Shoduek Ratchasetthi who was a former governor of King Rama III.
The building was updated so it could be a royal monastery, but in the reign of King Rama V the building has been abandoned and only a few of the ruins remain.
