DISTRICT: Watthana
POSTCODE: 10110 and 10260
The sub-district of Phra Khanong Nuea is not part of Phra Khanong Province. Now this is complicated, but it was at one time. Then it became part of the Khlong Toei District. Finally in 1988, along with Khlong Tan Nuea and Khlong Toei Nuea were split from Khlong Toei to form the new district of Watthana. The sub-district primarily covers the area from Soi Sukhumvit 63 to Soi Sukhumvit 81.
Not surprisingly then, Phra Khanong Nuea borders Phra Khanong District along Sukhumvit Road served by three BTS Skytrain stations, Ekami, Phra Khanong and On Nut.
Wat That Thong is not one of the more famous temples, but is certainly worth a visit. It was built in 1937 and replaced two temples Wat That and Wat Thong that were in the same spot. The temples most striking feature is a beautiful statue of the golden Buddha seated in the lotus position.
Wat That Thong is known for its funeral services and as a place for paying respect. Visitors are welcome with the best times during one of the Buddhist holidays when there will be celebrations and food available.
Phra Khanong Nuea is home to Sukhumvit Hospital. The hospital which opened in 1977 was one of the first private hospitals in Thailand. Its roots however can be traced back to the Vietnam war when it was an army hospital with the name Fifth Field Hospital.
Sukhumvit Hospital is in a 16 story building with 243 patient rooms, 95 diagnostic rooms and can service up to 2,000 patients per day.
