Tha Raeng is a sub-district of Bang Khen and is to the northeast of central Bangkok. Nearby are the barracks of the Thai Army and the 11^th Infantry Division, which occupy a vast amount of land.

Although at the moment Tha Raeng is not serviced by the MRT or the BTS, there is a planned Green Line extension to the Skytrain that will mean commuting to the centre of Bangkok will be far easier.

Shopping in the area is mostly restricted to small convenience stores, although there is a great market at Ying Charoen that has an array of fresh produce and some tasty food stalls.

If it is fashion that you are seeking then a trip to The Platinum Place Tha Raeng should suit. This modern and stylish shopping mall can be found on Soi Watcharapol, it has a selection of fashion outlets and is really kids friendly.

The food section offers a wide variety of mainly Thai dishes that are freshly prepared each day. There are also numerous coffee places that you can relax and take a rest from your shopping.

Tha Raeng is a fairly rural area and has a great community feel to it, and the housing is an eclectic mixture of Thai-style architecture, townhouses, and small apartment buildings. However, if the planned extension to the BTS goes ahead it may be well worth looking at as a commuter area for Bangkok.
