Latphrao District

SUB DISTRICTS: Chorakhe Bua

AREA: 21.5 km2 (8.3 sq mi)

POPULATION: 120,394 (2017)

POSTCODE: 10310 and 10230

Lat Phrao is believed to translate to “slope of coconut”. This is somewhat depicted in the official seal of the district which has two leaves sprouting from a coconut.

Like many districts in Bangkok, Lat Phrao fell under various jurisdictions during its history. Originally it was a tambon of Bang Kapi District which at that time was part of the province of Phra Nakhon. Phra Nakhon was later merged with Thon Buri to form Krung Thep or Bangkok. Lat Phrao remained as a sub-district of Bang Kapi district though the terminology changed.

In 1989, Lat Phrao was elevated to District status. In 1997, the boundaries were changed such that part of the Chorakhe Bua sub-district was changed to fall under the Bang Khen District. At the same time part of the Lat Phrao sub-district was moved to the Wang Thonglang Disrict.

Five years later, part of the Wang Thonglang District changed to administratively be part of the Lat Phrao district again. The district is served by a seven member council.

Public transportation in the district is boosted by two MRT stations, Lat Phrao and Phahon Yothin. Not surprisingly, these areas have a higher concentration of housing including The Issara Lat Phrao near the station of the same name.

Up market and boutique restaurants are to be found on Chok Chai 4. There is also expanding nightlife options with late night clubs and karaoke bars. The larger clubs are closer to Town in Town or Lat Phrao soi 71.
