Bueng Kum because of the lake which is also part of the Seri Thai Park (bueng meaning lake). Around the lake are plants named as Kum, so therefore Bueng Kum.
The Seri Thai Park is one of the main features of this district which also includes the Seri Thai Memorial Hall and Museum. On the fifty-second anniversary of the end of WWII, August 16th 1997 this park was officially named Seri Thai in honour of the Free Thai Movement who fought by the side of the allies during the Japanese occupation.
Bueng Kum district is not on the BTS or the MRT lines therefore travel is by regular bus services to other areas of the city.
The nearest shopping center to Bueng Kum is the Nine Centre Rama 9. As well as plenty of retail outlets this mall has a wonderful food court and many coffee outlets. And the top floor is dedicated to a kids play area so your shopping excursion will not be spoiled by the little ones.
Another interesting attraction in the district is the Bangkok Sculpture Centre on Nuanchan Road. If you are into sculpture then this is a great place to see art from around Thailand and further afield, take the MRT to Ladprao station and get a cab from there.
There are plenty of living options in Bueng Kum, from condominium developments to housing estates and the prices are reasonable for Bangkok too. But accessing Central Bangkok is rather a chore.
