One of the largest outlying districts of Bangkok to the east is Lat Krabang, which is nearly fifty square miles in size. It is so large that it is divided into six sub-districts that accommodate nearly one hundred and eighty thousand people.

Being near Suvarnabhumi Airport it was included in the 2005 plan to create a special administrative area called Nakhon Suvarnabhumi. And was one of five districts that were included.

Apart from the airport, industry and commerce is rather restricted to the Lat Krabang Industrial Estate. However, the area is home to the outstanding King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Lat Krabang, and the impressive campus can be seen from the highway running past the airport.

Many people who live in Lat Krabang either work at the airport or the university. As the transport infrastructure to Bangkok is rather limited into Bangkok not many people commute to the center of the city on a daily basis.

There are plenty of new housing estates in this part of Bangkok, and the road network is excellent to get to other parts of Thailand such as Pattaya and the Eastern Seaboard.

Housing is reasonably priced in Lat Krabang and those workers who do travel into Bangkok usually drive to the airport link train and change to the BTS or the MRT to get to their destination.
